Waiting for my real life to begin

So who's this bloke with the ugly mug? It's Colin Hay. I will not sing the glories of this singer/song writer because I know nothing about him, and rather than copying from Wikipedia I will spare you and let you seek further info on him if you feel like it.

Why then am I putting a photo of him here? Well, it's got to do with a song of his (kinda forthcoming, that was, innit?), the one titled "Waiting for my real life to begin". I am putting the song here, below, as a plain Youtube vid without images because all the other that I could find were either stupid fan videoclips made with bits of other bands clips, or even worse: covers.

Now, don't you go thinking that I've got anything against either, cos I don't, the same way that I don't reject karaoke altogether (those of you who know me know that I sooooo don't reject karaoke...). But like all things, they need to be done properly, and that, I could not find in this instance.

Anyway, the song has reminded me of times in my life when I didn't know what I was doing, I felt between hopeless and depressed (for about two hours, never longer than that, not me). I think that the song sings about a person that is unhappy and takes a back sit hence foregoing control over his or her future and leaving a change in his or her life up to external events...

Not right, not right, but we have all felt at some point like giving up and letting the tide take us wherever it may choose. You know, like when you have been battling with the world for too long and feel tired, so sit down on a step with your hands holding your head and thinking "fuck it all".

So this song I dedicate to all those of you who have ever felt like this, or are indeed going through the roughest now. Deep inside you know that you have to do something, that your real life is here and now, but just for a moment you sooo wish you could sit back and let all go to hell...

I don't intend to be a therapist here, but just remember that nothing is permanent.

For you to sing along, here are the lyrics:

WAITING FOR MY REAL LIFE TO BEGIN
Album : "Going Somewhere"
(written by: Colin Hay / Thom Mooney)
Colin Hay

Any minute now, my ship is coming in
I'll keep checking the horizon
I'll stand on the bow, feel the waves come crashing
Come crashing down down down, on me

And you say, be still my love
Open up your heart
Let the light shine in
But don't you understand
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

When I awoke today, suddenly nothing happened
But in my dreams, I slew the dragon
And down this beaten path, and up this cobbled lane
I'm walking in my old footsteps, once again
And you say, just be here now
Forget about the past, your mask is wearing thin
Let me throw one more dice
I know that I can win
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

Any minute now, my ship is coming in
I’ll keep checking the horizon
And I'll check my machine, there's sure to be that call
It's gonna happen soon, soon, soon
It's just that times are lean

And you say, be still my love
Open up your heart, let the light shine in
Don't you understand
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

PS: Beatruska, you see how simple and beautiful this song is? If you play the guitar part I can sing... deal?
